This is an overview of the features and changes added in the latest version of Nerve. For an extensive list of all changes, refer to the release notes. For more details on each feature or change, follow the links after the feature descriptions.

Added an audit logs dashboard for the Management System

Potentially security relevant events in the Management System are now logged in a separate audit logs OpenSearch dashboard. The audit logs dashboard can be accessed in the SYSTEM INFO section of the Management System navigation.

Select SYSTEM INFO at the bottom-left and then select the Logs tab to find the VIEW AUDIT LOGS link.

Refer to Audit logs for the Management System for more information.

Node and workload activity logs added

Activity logs have been added to two places in the Management System. The workload control screen now has an additional Activity log tab that displays log messages describing the activity of the workload since its deployment. Logs can be downloaded with a download button.

Workload activity log

The Logs tab in the node details view has a new Node activity section. It contains two links, allowing access to audit logs filtered to that specific node and the option to download the workload activity logs of all deployed workloads at once.

Server logs renamed and made available for admins

Management System logs, formerly labeled server logs, were only intended for Nerve service technicians prior to version 2.8.0. Now they can be accessed by any admin user in the SYSTEM INFO section of the Management System navigation.

Select SYSTEM INFO at the bottom-left and then select the Logs tab to find the VIEW MANAGEMENT SYSTEM LOGS link.

View Management System logs

To improve the navigation experience in the Management System UI, a number of internal links have been added to certain pages to reduce the number of steps it takes to get from one menu to the other. Here is an overview of the links added:

Remote connection import or export

Refer to Exporting remote connections and Importing remote connections for more information.

New spot for remote connections icon in workload list

The remote connection icon in the workloads list of the node details view has been moved. It is now in a more prominent position on the left side.

The Debian version of the system has been updated to Debian Bookworm

The base system has been updated from Debian Buster to Debian Bookworm. This was done to ensure support for various hardware and to enhance the security capabilities of the system.

CODESYS version of the RTVM and the device description file have been updated

The CODESYS runtime has been updated from V3.5.17.20-7 to V3.5.19.40, fixing security issues caused by CODESYS (for more details, refer to the release notes).

There is also a new device description file available. Download the newest file from the Nerve Software Center when working with Nerve and CODESYS.

Nerve Connection Manager will no longer be detected by antivirus tools

The newest version of the Nerve Connection Manager, version 2.0.0, will not be detected by antivirus software anymore. Download the newest version from the Nerve Software Center.

However, note that version 2.0.0 of the Nerve Connection Manager is not compatible with Management Systems lower than 2.8.0. Refer to the Compatibility matrix for 2.8.0 for more information. Refer to the release notes for Nerve Connection Manager 2.0.0 for more information on the newest Nerve Connection Manager release.

Virtual machine video options are deprecated

A feature previously available per request, the virtual machine video options are not available anymore from version 2.8.0 onward. It is not possible anymore to configure the video output of Nerve Devices to directly output the interface of deployed virtual machines. This also means that it is not possible to operate virtual machines directly at the Nerve Device by connecting one or more monitors, a keyboard and a mouse.
